The ASCD "SS" hood has become very popular within the past couple of years. Mine was bought in December 2001 from a member of www.thirdgen.org who was unfortunate to total his beautiful IROC.
I drove up to South Bend, IN where Derek (90Z28SS) had already had the hood painted to a perfect match. We swapped the hood and just threw the old one in a dumpster as someone had previously scraped it up while the car was parked at my university. A special thanks to Derek for a great deal and all the help!!

The hood is a good fit and very good quality. It is a bolt on hood where the factory hardware bolts right on for an easy installation. The only thing that isn't a true swap is the under-hood light. For it to work - you have to add a ground wire since you obviously won't be able to ground it in the hood like the stock one.

One other thing to be aware of, is the hood struts. If your stock ones are new or in very good shape - they might be too strong for the fiberglass hood. What can happen is that the hood cracks around the hinges. This is nothing to be think about for only this hood, but all bolt on fiberglass hoods.
There are several ways to work around this. One is to buy a set of weaker hood struts. I have also read that you can use the hood struts that were used on the early thirdgens that came with stock fiberglass hoods. I can not recall if these were 1982 Z28's only, or if they were also available on 1983 Z's.
Another route is to do like me and hunt down a set of "worn" stock hood struts. I was able to do an even exchange with someone online who had a stock hood with struts that weren't capable of holding it up. These were perfect for my hood.
