Camaro SS. You didn't know there actually was a thirdgen SS, did you? Well considering it wasn't a factory option - you don't really have anything to be ashamed of.
Unfortunately Choo Choo Customs' SS didn't really stand up to the legendary name as we know it. As a matter of fact - Im quite impressed they were allowed to use the name at all..
As with the Team Camaro, due to the lack of information, I will simply refer directly to the 1986 sales media from CCC for the most accurat information:
"The traditional Camaro with an all new change of face. The affordable Camaro SS package features a dazzling array of special effects, including Rear Spoiler, Sporty Side Pipes and dynamic Hand-Painted Pinstriping Design. It's pure excitement that leave no head unturned "
Were we really that easy to please in the 80's? We must have been.. The only things that really caugt my attention was the side pipes. Not that Im all that fond of them, but the fact that they actually were offered and that in a molded "factory-looking" style. Nifty. Im surprised I have never seen these puppies show up on ebay or at least the thirdgen communities.
Lets have a look at what the Camaro SS from Choo Choo Customs had to offer (continuing from the sales brocheure):
|
"SS Edition Camaro
- Custom Hand Painted Pinstriping
- Special Effects Rear Spoiler
- Shielded Sporty Side Pipes - Color Keyed to Chassis (Apperance Package)
- Fuel Injection Logo if 4 or 6 Cylinders / or to match engine displacement
- SS Logo Emblems - 4
Options
- Cragar Protech 15" Custom Wheels
- 14" Leather Steering Wheel
- European Wood Dash with glove box
- Burlewood or Aluminum Dash
So besides the side pipes, we are looking at a badge package! Im sorry, but that is on the verge of a disgrace of the SS heritage in my eyes. I guess we will have to blame it on the 80's, gas-prices and whatever else we can find of excuses.
For the SS conversion, I only have the pictures from the brocheures, so here I'd very much appreciate any color pictures you may come across, as I'd like to document these cars if there are any still around. So - be sure to send it to me! Im also here very interested should anyone have or come across the original sales brocheurs as I would love to get my hands on a color copy!!
